Independent links for your own research
I am not asking you to take my word for it. Below are bodies working on the same subject — independent of this page, with different starting points and different interests. Look through them, inform yourself, draw your own conclusions.
Why I note what each one is: because you cannot judge a claim without knowing who is making it. Beside every body, its nature is stated — state structure, registered charity, commercial service or campaign organisation.
Our sister site
Unlike every organisation listed below, this one is not independent — it is written by the same author, using the same documentation system. We say so explicitly, precisely because this page asks you to check who is speaking.
psychpractices.org SISTER SITE · SAME AUTHOR Covers the practices and the mechanisms — institutions, restraint, involuntary hospitalisation, the DSM, ghostwriting. This page covers the drugs; that one covers what was done to people, and by whom.State and institutional bodies
These are publicly accountable and subject to institutional oversight.
National Psychiatric Drug Deprescribing Clinic (NHS) STATE CLINIC · UNITED KINGDOM The first national psychiatric drug deprescribing clinic inside the British public health system, within the NELFT NHS Foundation Trust. Led by Mark Horowitz and Joanna Moncrieff. That a state system set up a formal service in order to deprescribe says a great deal on its own. NICE NG215 — Medicines associated with dependence and withdrawal REGULATORY GUIDELINE · UNITED KINGDOM The official British guideline on safe withdrawal. A source, not commentary.Academics and professional networks
Researchers and psychiatrists who criticise the field from inside it.
Joanna Moncrieff PROFESSOR OF PSYCHIATRY · UCL Author of the 2022 umbrella review on serotonin and of the 2025 re-analysis on withdrawal — two studies cited in this file, together with the rebuttals to them. Critical Psychiatry Network NETWORK OF PSYCHIATRISTS · SINCE 1999 An informal network of psychiatrists and trainees. No legal personality and no published accounts. International Institute for Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal REGISTERED CHARITY · UK 1195569 Founded 2017. Chaired by Professor John Read; Peter Gøtzsche sits on the board. It files annual accounts with the Charity Commission — verifiable transparency. Council for Evidence-based Psychiatry CAMPAIGN ORGANISATION · UK Founded 2014. It provides the secretariat of the British all-party parliamentary group on prescribed drug dependence, and contributed to the NICE guideline. A position taken on one side, with institutional access.Withdrawal services and directories
These provide services. Some are paid for — that is stated.
TaperCommunity — clinic directory DIRECTORY · 77+ CLINICS WORLDWIDE A directory of clinics specialising in gradual withdrawal, including the NHS state clinic. TaperClinic COMMERCIAL CLINIC · SUBSCRIPTION Founded 2020, telemedicine. Its founder is Josef Witt-Doerring, a board-certified psychiatrist and former FDA medical officer in the division of psychiatric products, formerly a researcher at Janssen. It sells subscription services — I note that so you can weigh it. BenzoInfo PATIENT INFORMATION Information specific to benzodiazepines, and profiles of specialists. Prescribed Harm SUPPORT DIRECTORY A directory of withdrawal services, specialists and support communities.Campaign organisations
These have a declared position. They are not excluded — but you know they are arguing one side.
Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) CAMPAIGN ORGANISATION · SINCE 1969, 34+ COUNTRIES Founded 1969, present in more than 34 countries. It acted as the complainant body in the Chelmsford case, which led to the New South Wales Royal Commission — which independently documented the findings. It maintains a public timeline of court cases against pharmaceutical companies. No documentation in this file comes from CCHR — it is listed for what it did: the body that pressed for Chelmsford to be investigated. AntidepressantRisks.org PATIENT TESTIMONY Co-founded by Katinka Blackford Newman, a journalist with personal experience of an adverse reaction. It gives a platform to testimony — testimony is not statistics, but it is the kind of evidence that registries do not record. The links open in a new tab and carry rel="nofollow". Listing is not endorsement: some of these bodies disagree with one another, and some disagree with this page. That is the point.
Frequently asked questions
Short answers based on the text of this page. The sources for every figure are listed below.
Why does an evidence file include a list of organisations?
Because the site does not ask to be believed. It lists twelve independent sources — public services, organisations, researchers and clinics — with the nature of each stated, and one that is not independent: the sister site by the same author, declared as such.
Does the site give instructions for stopping medication?
No. It points to support organisations and official guidance; any change of treatment is made with the treating doctor.
